Train a Pastor

From Buddhism to Bible Teacher

At the early age of 5, Lakmal was immersed in Buddhism. His mother worshiped Buddha; he studied it and attended worship in a Buddhist temple. But at 9 years of age, Lakmal's father began talking to him about God. And then he went to youth camp where he personally met Jesus. That was when his life began to change. He knew the only true God. He began to walk daily with his Savior and grow in his faith, and it became clearer and clearer to him that God was calling him in to full-time Christian service. At 19, Lakmal felt called to dedicate his life to the ministry. But how was he to find and pay for Christian training in the middle of Sri Lanka? Enter Back to the Bible. Your generous donations made it possible for him to attend and graduate from Colombo Theological Seminary.

Train a Pastor

Lakmal is now a pastor serving in a predominantly Buddhist area of Sri Lanka. And his hope for the future is to carry out his duties as a preacher and teacher, sharing God's Word with others and introducing Jesus Christ to those who do not know Him. He wrote us--and you--with his appreciation:

Though words cannot sufficiently express my gratitude, let me say a big THANK YOU to Back to the Bible (Sri Lanka) and to all Back to the Bible supporters worldwide. I am a product of God's wonderful grace and your amazing love. --Lakmal

Get Involved
Back to the Bible's Train a Pastor program provides solid Bible teaching through radio, magazines and books as well as pastors' seminars and training programs in Indonesia, Ecuador and Sri Lanka to thousands of pastors and church leaders around the world who have compassionate hearts for ministry but little or no training. It's our goal to give them the tools: training in counseling, computer skills, a good theological understanding, sermon preparation and more to help them become wise and effective ministers of the Gospel.

And Train a Pastor is producing Bible teachers and leaders many of whom are on the frontlines in nations where only a small percentage of citizens are Christians.

Give a Gift
Would you consider supporting a student so he can be part of Train a Pastor? It costs $300-$500 (depending on the country) to provide training for each pastor. We are so grateful for any donation you can make. We just couldn't provide these men, many of whom are already working with congregations, the necessary education to do their jobs well without your help. Be a part of what God is accomplishing in the lives of men like Lakmal. Make your donation today to the Train a Pastor Project.
